PB Day 17 - An Ode to Paula Deen

O Paula, O Paula, O Paula
How I love to watch the cameras turn on your silver hair
O Paula O Paula O Paula
Hey, is that more butter over there?

O Paula O Paula O Paula
On my hips, belly, and thighs your recipes have made a mark
O Paula O Paula O Paula
Who Cares, I'm still going to make your Pine Bark.

My ovens are full...

A cake over here...Some strawberry bread over there...

Looks like no room to be Amy Bakes...so I'll be Amy Slaps-Stuff-Together-And-Melts-Chocolate-Over-It

This is an adaptation of a Paula Deen recipe. One of my favorite snacks meets butter and chocolate. Where's the evil in that?

Take a cookie sheet and cover it with foil and spray with cooking spray...

Here's the "favorite snack" part of the program...

Take a Ritz cracker and smear on some peanut butter...

Slap another Ritz on top...

Peanut butter cracker sandwich. It's a culinary miracle...

Make a lot of them, enough to cover the cookie sheet.
I tried to get the boys to help me with this, but they were more interested in smearing peanut butter on each other and were quickly fired from their positions as Mommy's Helpers.

Let's make some caramel for these...or kinda caramel. Melt 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of brown sugar...

While that's melting, open some chocolate bars (I did just plain Hershey's)...I started with 6

After the butter and sugar boil for a few minutes, it looks like this:

Pour this over the Ritz Sandwiches...
Yeah, that shot totally sucked, but I almost burnt myself trying to get it, so I put it in anyways. See how I suffer for art?

Now break up the chocolate and drop the pieces on the hot caramel...

Cover every one...this is chocolate after all. We want chocolate in every bite...
After a few minutes, the heat from the caramel will melt the chocolate. Now we can spread the chocolate around into an even layer...

If the chocolate isn't all the way melted, you can throw this in a 350 oven for a few minutes...

Now we have to let it cool...
And somehow keep our hands out of it.

You know me well enough to know that I can't keep my hands out of it, I gotta cut into it now...

Isn't it cute? Chocolate and Caramel Covered Ritz Sandwiches....

You make some, they're easy!

Your Pine Bark came through for me again
O Paula O Paula O Paula
On a scale of 1-9 I give this recipe a ten!

Peanut Butter Pine Bark
Adapted from Paula Deen's Pine Bark
Ritz Crackers
Peanut Butter
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
9 chocolate bars

Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Spread peanut butter onto crackers, cover with another cracker to make a sandwich. Line the cracker sandwiches on the cookie sheet. Melt butter and brown sugar together, bring to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes. Pour the caramel onto the cracker sandwiches. Break up the chocolate bars and scatter over the caramel. Allow to sit for a few minutes to let the chocolate melt. Spread the melted chocolate over the caramel layer. Cool, break up into pieces and eat.

Eat. Eat. Eat a lot.

Someone get over here and get these away from me before I eat the whole pan.
